Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday that the Iran nuclear issue should be resolved by diplomatic methods exclusively.
"It is absolutely clear that the problem can be settled exclusively by political and diplomatic methods and any other scenarios, especially use-of-force scenarios, are completely unacceptable," Lavrov said, addressing the faculty and students at the University of Global Economy and Diplomacy in the Uzbek capital.
Western powers suspect Iran of developing a nuclear program aimed at the production of an atomic weapon. Iran says the program is for the peaceful generation of energy.
Iran, which is currently under three sets of United Nations sanctions for refusing to halt uranium enrichment, recently announced plans to build 10 new uranium enrichment facilities.
During a UN Security Council meeting on December 10, the United States, Britain and France warned Iran that they were likely to push for new sanctions early next year if it refused to halt its nuclear program.
