MOSCOW, October 26 (RIA Novosti) - On Sunday, October 26 the Uruguayans will take part in General Elections, voting for country's president, vice president and members of parliament, they will also take part in plebiscite on amendments to the country's Constitution.

The amendment, advocated by the Uruguayan opposition, proposes to lower the age of criminal responsibility from 18 to 16. The Uruguayans will also be asked to answer several questions regarding the security and combating street crimes.

About 2.6 million Uruguayans are expected to participate in the elections as voting is mandatory for all the citizens over the age of 18.

Seven candidates are running for president of Uruguay - the country's former President Tabare Vazquez, the National Party's candidate and the middle son of former President of Uruguay Luis Alberto Lacalle, Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou, the senator Pedro Bordaberry, the former representative of the Independent Party Pablo Mieres, Gonzalo Abella of Popular Unity Party, Cesar Vega of the Ecologist Radical Party and Rafael Fernandez of Worker's Party.

If no presidential candidate receives the absolute majority of 50 percent +1 vote, a runoff will take place on the last Sunday of November. Polls suggest that Tabare Vazquez and Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou are most likely to make it to the runoff.

The incumbent president of Uruguay Jose Mujica has been the leader of the country since 2010, and is often described as "the world's poorest president" because he donates almost all his salary to charities. Mujica is barred from running for a second consecutive term by the Constitution.
