MOSCOW, September 5 (RIA Novosti) – Military action will not solve the Ukrainian crisis, it will only be resolved through a political dialogue, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Ilkka Kanerva said Friday.
“There is no military solution what concerns the situation in Ukraine" so "political dialogue” is required at every level, Kanerva told reporters following a meeting with Sergei Naryshkin, the speaker of Russia's lower house of parliament.
Kanerva noted that the talks with Naryshkin “were very tough but very fair and open-minded and constructive as well.” The sides couldn’t agree on some details but had “a very clear vision of what will take later our view,” according to the OSCE official.
“We have to find a way out of the current situation in Ukraine,” Kanerva underlined.
Ukraine has been engulfed in violent internal conflict since mid-April, when Kiev began its military operation against independence supporters in the southeastern regions of the country. According to United Nations’ estimates, over 2,500 people have been killed and more than 6,000 wounded since the start of the offensive.
