WARSAW, August 17 (RIA Novosti) – Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has discussed on the phone with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin possible ways to handle the crisis in Ukraine, press secretary of the Polish ministry said.
“The conversation was focused on the ways to settle the Ukrainian crisis, particularly in light of the upcoming meeting in Berlin,” Marcin Wojciechowski said.
According to Wojciechowski, the phone conversation was initiated by the Ukrainian side.
The press secretary also said that Klimkin notified Sikorski of the intentions Kiev is going to declare in Berlin.
A four-party meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia, Germany, France, and Ukraine focused on the Ukrainian crisis is due to take place in Berlin later on Sunday. Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Poland was not invited to the meeting.
This is the second time foreign ministers of the four countries hold negotiations on the situation in Ukraine in this format. On July 2, Sergei Lavrov, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Francois Hollande and Pavlo Klimkin met in Berlin. Following the results of the two-hour negotiations, the four elaborated a joint declaration strongly reconfirming their commitment to sustainable peace and stability in Ukraine.
