A Russian-French minesweeping exercise ended in the Baltic Sea on Monday. The one-day exercise involved Russian Baltic Fleet minesweeper Sergei Kolbasyev and the French minesweeper M642 Cassiopée.
The ships tested their communications networks, conducted tactical maneuvers and simulated high-seas refueling operations. They also searched for mines using sonar and a remote-controlled mine detector.
Russian and French specialists exchanged experience onboard both ships during the exercise.

The M642 Cassiopée, which arrived at the Russian Baltic Fleet’s naval base last week, had previously visited Baltiisk in June 2005. At that time, its crew conducted a communications exercise, joint maneuvers and mine-sweeping operations in conjunction with the Russian Navy’s minesweeper Alexei Lebedev.
