Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has tested a Kamaz truck which will participate in the next Dakar rally in January 2011.
Medvedev drove the truck to the airport for a distance of approximately 30 kilometers.
The president’s navigator was the driver of the Russian team and record holder at the rally, Vladimir Chagin.
After taking his seat behind the wheel, Medvedev looked at the cabin for several seconds, examining the devices.
Before starting the engine, Medvedev fastened special five-point fixation belts which are made especially for sport cars to protect from spinal injuries while a car jumps on the track.
At the Kamaz plant the president examined the vehicles and got into the cabins of several trucks. “It is rather comfortable inside here,” Medvedev said behind the wheel of a Kamaz-5460.
Medvedev gave medals to the drivers, navigators and mechanics of the Russian Kamaz-master team at one of the workshops in Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan's second city. “I handed out state awards in various situations, but it never happened inside a Kamaz,” Medvedev said.
