Vladivostok is celebrating the 279th anniversary of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, established on May 21, 1731, when the Senate commissioned the Okhotsk military port on the Pacific coast. Today, the Pacific Fleet has strategic ballistic missile submarines, short- and long-range sea-going and ocean-going warships, strategic bombers, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft and fighters, as well as ground and coastal units, for accomplishing a variety of objectives.
