Duality of the mirror image of the Sochi Olympics’ logo
Dmitry Chernyshenko (left), president of the Organizing Committee of the Sochi 2014 Olympics, officially presented the new logo of Russia’s first Winter Games during a news conference in Moscow on Tuesday.
The logo, Sochi.ru, displays a mirror image of the date, “2014,” on the left and the Olympic rings on the right.
The mirror image symbolizes the duality of Sochi, where snow-laden mountains tower above the warm Black Sea coast.
Duality is reflected in the logo’s main colors, marine blue and winter white.
Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), approved of the new Sochi 2014 logo. “I like the idea; it is very creative,” he said. “It is also very attractive for young people. You know that the IOC is doing its best to attract young people to sports.”
The new Sochi-2014 logo shows that the 2014 Winter Games are an important event for Sochi and the rest of Russia, said Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov (center).
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said the logo “is a declaration of conducting innovative Games” and also implies “serious responsibility.”
