Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Central Election Commission chief Vladimir Churov to analyze the results of regional parliamentary elections that saw the ruling United Russia party win a large share of the vote on a low turnout.

The opposition, however, does not recognize its defeat: the Communist Party plans to contest the gubernatorial elections in the Bryansk, Ryazan, Saratov and Penza regions, as well as the Krasnodar Territory.

The ruling United Russia party has decided not to restore the minimum alcohol content norm, which makes it possible to separate drunk drivers from those drivers who have a certain amount of natural alcohol in their blood from using medicine or drinking fermented food products like sour milk. That follows a series of high-profile road traffic deaths caused by drunk drivers in recent weeks, drawing the ire of President Putin and other politicians.
