Toyota cuts 2011 car production in St.Petersburg

Russian subsidiary of Japanese car maker Toyota plans to produce 14,000 cars in 2011 which is 12.5 percent less than last year, its CEO Matsunaga Yoshinori said on Saturday.

"We will produce 14,000 cars, less compared to the previous year. It is due to re-equipment of the assembly line for the Toyota Camry of seventh generation," said Yoshinori.

The plant, located in St.Peterburg, plans to launch manufacturing of the new car model in late October - early November, he added.

The company was initially expected to boost the production 7 percent this year to 17,000 vehicles.

Russia is the largest market for Toyota in Europe. All in all, Toyota plans to raise sales in Russia by 29 percent to 115,000 cars in 2011.
