The nephew of ousted Kyrgyz leader Kurmanbek Bakiyev has been sentenced to ten years in prison for instigating the violence that erupted between Kyrgyz and ethnic Uzbeks in June, a judge said on Tuesday.

Up to 300 people were killed in the clashes in the southern cities of Osh and Jalalabad, but officials say as many as 2,000 may have died.

Prosecutors demanded 25 years for Sanjar Bakiyev, who pleaded guilty after being arrested by police in July.

Kurmanbek Bakiyev is currently in exile in Belarus.
