The head of Kyrgyzstan's Security Council is on his way to Moscow to discuss ongoing ethnic violence in southern Kyrgyzstan, the interim government's press service said on Wednesday.

Alik Orozov is scheduled to meet with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The statement said the sides will discuss "the speeding up of humanitarian aid deliveries to Kyrgyzstan from the [Collective Security Treaty Organization] CSTO, which was agreed upon at the latest emergency meeting of Security Council Secretaries of the CSTO member states."

At least 170 people have been killed in the south of the Central Asian republic in five days of ethnic violence between Kyrgyz and Uzbek groups.

The worst fighting to hit Kyrgyzstan since the collapse of the Soviet Union broke out in the cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad last week, killing 179 and injuring over 1800 people.

Thousands of ethnic Uzbeks have fled to Uzbekistan.

The interim government declared Wednesday a national day of mourning.
