MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) – A Moscow Region court has sentenced a Tajik national, who was caught stashing a large amount of heroin in his rented apartment, to 9.5 years in a high security prison, the Federal Drug Control Service said on Monday.
Police detained the man last May after finding 100 grams of heroin in his car.
“After he was detained, police searched his apartment in the town of Lyubertsy where he stored over 28 kilograms of heroin for subsequent sale. The heroin was camouflaged as carrots. Electronic scales and packaging materials were also seized during the search,” the Federal Drug Control Service said.
According to recent Russian official statistics, about 30,000 Russians die from heroin abuse every year.
