Six militants were killed during a special operation in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a source in the republican Interior Ministry said.

“Six militants were killed during a special operation. No law enforcement agents were injured or killed,” the source said. “The active phase is completed. Currently, the flat where the militants were holed up is being checked by bomb technicians, after which the investigators will start their work.”

According to National Anti-Terrorist Committee, the dead were members of the Kyzlyar group. Group leader Rustam Hasanov may be among dead.

Late last night unknown attackers fired a grenade launcher at the home of the Security Council secretary of another North Caucasus republic, Ingushetia.

The incident occurred on Friday morning at about 2 a.m. Moscow time in Malgobek, Ingushetia. The attackers fired four times from the grenade launcher, but no one was injured. Investigators are at the scene.

According to the official website of Ingushetia, the secretary of Ingushetia's Security Council is Ahmed Kotiev. He was appointed to the post in April 2011 by decree of Ingush President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov.

According to the Caucasian Knot website, Kotiev was the chief of police in Nazran in 2007-2009 and oversaw the dispersal of demonstrations against murders and kidnappings by unidentified members of military forces.

In autumn 2008, the opposition website Ingushetiya.ru accused Kotiev of helping to organize the murder of Magomed Yevloyev and placed a vendetta on Kotiev and other Ingush officials, including the republic's former president Murat Zyazikov.
