A member of the security services and his wife were hospitalized after a bomb went off in a car in Nazran, the capital of the Russian North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, a security service spokesman reported on Friday.
“At approximately at 8.40 am Moscow time [5.40 GMT] an unknown man was blown up in a car on a busy road,” the spokesman said. "A law enforcement employee, and his wife, who works with him, were injured when the bomb went off,” he said.
Ingushetia and other neighboring North Caucasus republics have been affected by an ongoing insurgency in the last 18 years, with Islamic groups fighting the federal security forces.
