According to Reuters news agency, Fidel Castro, will vacate the post of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in April.
“Whatever position he might depart from, a tribute must be paid to the work he has done as Cuba’s leader. Work resulting in the enormous prestige which still remains is an important factor in politics,” Vice-Speaker of the State Duma and the first deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Ivan Melnikov, told reporters.
Melnikov, who is in charge of interparliamentary relations with Cuba, stated that Castro “is very different from some of the other revolutionary leaders due to the fact that even after holding on to power for so many years, he avoided becoming an autocratic dictator, and managed to remain a true revolutionary with a flaming heart.”
