Russian Technologies to buy 100 new airliners from UAC, Boeing

Russian Technologies plans to buy 50 MS-21 short-range and mid-range airliners from United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and 50 Boeing airliners for the country's flagship carrier Aeroflot, Russian Technologies head Sergei Chemezov said on Tuesday.

IRKUTSK, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Technologies State Corporation plans to buy 50 MS-21 short-range and mid-range airliners from United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and 50 Boeing airliners for the country's flagship carrier Aeroflot, Russian Technologies head Sergei Chemezov said on Tuesday.

"In the nearest future we will sign an agreement in Sochi to buy 50 MS-21 airliners from UAC and 50 airliners from Boeing. The size of the contract is being discussed now," Chemezov said.

The new MS-21s will be built by the Irkut company, a UAC subsidiary. Irkut plans the first flight for the MS-21 in 2014 with sales starting in 2016.

In May, Boeing won a Russian Technologies' tender to supply it with 50 new narrow-bodied planes with an option for 15 more.

Russian Technologies has said it also planned to buy the Antonov An-148 and Sukhoi SuperJet100 short range airliners from UAC.

In August, Aeroflot informed the government of its plans to of purchase locally produced aircraft in the period until 2020. The airline says its fleet will consist of 126 Russian-built planes, including 50 MS-21 aircraft.
