WASHINGTON, February 13 (RIA Novosti) – A Ukrainian entertainment journalist and guerilla prankster who was arrested for storming the stage at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday, says he did not even have a ticket to the event, where he tried to interrupt British singer Adele as she received an award before a live television audience.
Vitalii Sediuk, who was slapped by actor Will Smith at a Moscow film premier last year trying to kiss the Hollywood star, said he snuck into the venerable music awards by following pop star Katy Perry into the event at the Staples Center arena.
“I didn’t really think about the fact that I didn't have the ticket,” Sediuk was quoted by The Associated Press (AP) as saying Tuesday.
Once inside, Sediuk took a seat near the stage, apparently sitting in singer Adam Levine’s seat, the AP reported.
The 24-year-old journalist made a “spontaneous” decision to climb onto the stage and seize the microphone before Adele received an award, much to the dismay of presenter Jennifer Lopez, who shooed him away.
He managed to say a few words, including calling Adele his “inspiration,” before quickly exiting backstage center.
“The idea to go on the stage came up at the last second. To be honest, Adele is my favorite singer,” Sediuk told the Hollywood Reporter. “So when I heard her name, I came up with this idea to go up on the stage and say what I said. … I pretended this was an award for me, and then I said, ‘Thank you, Adele. You’re my inspiration.’”
Sediuk was arrested for trespassing and held by police for several hours after the stunt, and he now faces a March 4 court date in connection with the incident, the AP reported.
“Oh Adele. Help me not to go to jail,” the AP quoted him as saying.
