WASHINGTON, DC, October 2 (RIA Novosti)
And the winner is… Seth MacFarlane. The comedian, writer and director responsible for some of American television’s funniest moments will host the 85th Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood, California, producers of the Academy Awards announced Monday.
"We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh," said show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron in a statement. "He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."
"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," said MacFarlane.
“I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast," he added.
The 38-year-old MacFarlane is a jack-of-all-trades in the entertainment world, a singer, comedian and actor who is perhaps best known for his jaw-dropping, irreverent, animated television show “Family Guy,” about a loving but dysfunctional and often disturbing family of social misfits.
He also co-created “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show,” and recently wrote and directed his first feature-length comedy film “Ted,” about a grown man’s relationship with the stuffed animal from his childhood, a rude, crude and socially unacceptable talking teddy bear.
The Academy Awards recognizes top talent in the film industry including actors, directors and writers, drawing tens of millions of viewers in more than 100 countries around the world each year.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on the American television network ABC on February 24, 2013.
