MOSCOW, September 23 (RIA Novosti), Ekaterina Blinova - Scottish independence supporters have launched a new "We Are the 45%" campaign after the Yes vote was defeated in Scotland's Independence referendum.

"The group, which currently badges itself as the 45%, says it speaks for the 1.6 million Yes voters who lost out on last Thursday's referendum… The movement is hoping to capitalize on the swelling interest in grassroots political activism which swept across Scotland in the last few months. The blue Yes logo that became ubiquitous on Twitter and Facebook profile pictures in recent weeks has now been replaced by a similarly designed 45 sticker," the Herald Scotland reported on September 22.

"The 45" campaign’s name came from the 44.7 percent of Scots who voted "Yes" for the state's independence from Britain. The movement has already amassed more than 167 thousand likes on Facebook and more than four thousand of readers on Twitter.

"The British establishment would love nothing more than for the 45 percent to disappear. By maintaining the success of alternative media this will not happen," writes one of "the 45" supporters, as cited by the Independent. The media source emphasizes that the group took an active part in a rally held in Dundee on September 20. Protesters demanded a recount, referring to the alleged vote rigging during the Scottish referendum.

Experts point out the rise of political activity in Scotland triggered by the referendum. However, Phillips O'Brien, an expert on party politics at Glasgow University, stresses that "the credibility" of the new movements, particularly "the 45" camp, "will be measured by its longevity."

"What is happening now is not as important as what will happen in a year or so. At the moment there are a lot of angry people out there who say they are committed to being an activist. But whether that is still the case by the time of the next General Election is unclear," he said as cited by the Herald Scotland, adding that "the 45" movement's ambitions were not impossible and it would be "fascinating" to see how the campaign progressed.
