MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A total of nine alleged militants were killed as a result of joint operation of SWAT, Rapid Action Battalion and local police in Kalyanpur district of Bangladesh capital of Dhaka, the additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Sheikh Maruf Hassan said Tuesday.
“We neutralised nine militants in the operation,” Hassan told journalists as quoted by the Daily Star newspaper.
In early July, Islamist militants took hostages inside a cafe located in the Bangladeshi capital's diplomatic quarter. The army said that 20 people had been killed by the hostage takers before the security forces began their operation to free hostages. Most of these were Japanese and Italian nationals. A total of 13 people were rescued, according to the country's prime minister.
A week later terrorist attacked policemen providing security at Eid congregation killing two of them and one female prayer.
