MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Officials have been warning about increased danger of mudslides and swelling rivers after parts of the Kyushu island saw a total 500mm (20 inches) of rainfall since the weekend, the national broadcaster NHK said.
The prefecture of Kumamoto on Japan’s southernmost island has been hit the hardest, with surrounding Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Kagoshima regions also suffering from heavy rains.
