23:42 GMT 25.05.2016 (Updated: 04:54 GMT 26.05.2016) President Barack Obama has nominated two new assistant secretaries of defense, the White House announced in a statement.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama named Thomas Atkin as his choice for the next Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Daniel Feehan as the next Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness, the statement said on Wednesday.
Both appointments are subject to approval by the US Senate.
Atkin retired from the US Coast Guard as a Rear Admiral in 2012 after 30 years of service. He has also served in support of the White House National Security Staff, the Defense Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Feehan previously served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense in which position he developed programs to ensure the readiness of the US military’s total force, National Guard and Reserve.
