Tehran's largest cemetery, Behesht-e Zahra, is starting to resemble a fashion show. A large number of people have started coming to the cemetery to take selfies and upload them to Instagram.

Moreover, the gravestones of the dead are now being decorated in different nontraditional styles, news agency Mehr reported.

Tombstones are being made using etching techniques, with images of women drawn without a hijab. Behesht-e Zahra is becoming a place of pilgrimage for selfie lovers.

This has received some criticism as the images of dead women without hijabs is making critics question the administration.

According to one seller of monuments, “Officially equipping the burial monuments which differ from the standard ones that are offered in the service in Behesht-e Zahra is prohibited. But most resort to bribing the leadership of the cemetery and we are increasingly receiving requests for original projects.”

He further said, “However, I do not remember anyone ever ordering a monument with an image without a hijab. Perhaps such orders are accepted by other masters.”

The price of the original monument ranges from $500 to $10,000.
