MOSCOW, September 25 (RIA Novosti) – The British Parliament is expected to convene on Friday to approve British involvement in the anti-IS (Islamic State) operation, joining the United States, France and other Middle Eastern countries.
Talks between UK Prime Minister David Cameron and UK Labour Party leader Edward Miliband on the issue are expected this week.
US President Barack Obama unveiled a strategy for defeating the IS on September 10. The plan includes forming an international coalition against the IS radical Sunni organization.
The IS, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), has been fighting against the Syrian government since 2012. In June 2014, the group extended its attacks to northern and western Iraq, declaring a caliphate on the territories over which it had control.
