Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday signed a decree introducing new procedures for monitoring the implementation of presidential orders and directives.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday signed a decree introducing new procedures for monitoring the implementation of presidential orders and directives.

Medvedev said the new document "lists different types of orders and directives issued by the president, defines legal consequences for their non-fulfillment, sets up deadlines and procedures for their execution, etc."

The president also ordered his envoys in the federal districts to monitor and control the execution of his orders along with heads of federal districts and regional governors.

Medvedev expressed hope that "the government will now have a clear understanding of how to fulfill presidential orders."

According to official information, only one-fifth of executive orders in Russia are fulfilled correctly and on time.

The presidential monitoring system is part of a wider campaign to eliminate red tape and corruption from Russia's bloated government bureaucracy.
