Moscow Muslims will celebrate on Sunday the Prophet Muhammad's birthday watching a "unique" laser show illustrating episodes from the Prophet's life, the Russian Mufti Council has said.
The birthday of the founder of Islam, which is known as Milad an-Nabi, is one of the main Muslim holidays. Muhammad ibn Abdullah was born in the Arabian city of Mecca around 570 A.D. Milad an-Nabi falls in the third month in the Islamic calendar, Rabi' al-awwal.
The celebration will take place in the Kosmos hotel in north-eastern Moscow and will include, besides the laser show, the performing of religious songs and Quran readings, the organizers said.
Well-known Russian artists are expected to take part in the festivity.
Participants will have a chance to win a pilgrimage tour to Mecca, the council said.
