MOSCOW, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - The president of Mongolia has issued a decree introducing a four-day state of emergency in the capital, Ulan Bator, because of rioting after Sunday's parliamentary elections, local media reported Tuesday.
President Nambaryn Enkhbayar announced the state of emergency after up to 6,000 protestors took to the streets Tuesday claiming the ruling party had rigged the weekend's elections.
The rioters set fire to the headquarters of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party in the center of Ulan Bator and clashed with police, who used rubber bullets and water cannons to disperse the angry crowd.
The emergency measures include a ban on public gatherings and a 10:00 p.m. (14:00 GMT) curfew.
