KABUL, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - Afghan and NATO-led forces killed more than ten Taliban militants in a joint operation in the province of Kandahar in south Afghanistan, an Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman said on Sunday.
"During the operation, more than ten Taliban militants were killed and a large amount of weapons and ammunition was seized. The operation is continuing," the spokesman said.
The Taliban carried out more than 140 suicide missions in Afghanistan last year. More than 6,000 people were killed in violence in the country in 2007, nearly 2,000 of them civilians, according to official sources.
Taliban militants are especially active in the southern and eastern parts of Afghanistan, which border on Pakistan.
