Beijing, July 20 (RIA Novosti, Alexei Yefimov) - Over two hundred veterans of the Second World War will gather in Beijing on September 3 to sign the Beijing Peace Declaration, a Chinese public diplomacy activist said Wednesday.
Chen Haosu, head of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, told a Beijing press conference the signing of the Declaration was timed to coincide with VJ Day.
The WWII veterans are invited to a ceremony in a Beijing park, where a Peace Wall will be unveiled. Engraved in this 60-meter-tall wall will be the text of the Declaration in Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, as well as the names of all the signatories.
"This will be a historic meeting, at which WWII veterans will express their striving to cherish life and peace," Haosu said.
