RUSSIA TO THOROUGHLY EXAMINE KOFI ANNAN'S REPORT ON UN REFORM

MOSCOW, March 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russia intends to thoroughly examine Kofi Annan's report on the UN reform, said the information and press department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The Russian side highly assesses the UN Secretary General's personal contribution to the reforms. Russia is ready for further close cooperation with him and for necessary assistance in the interests of mobilization of the states' political will to provide the possible widest accord on any innovations in the UN system," the department noted.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the report in based on a number of serious recommendations of a top-level group for threats, challenges and changes drafted with the assistance of academician Yevgeny Primakov.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan presented the report entitled "In Larger Freedom Towards Development, Security and Human Rights For All" at the 59th session of the UN General Assembly on March 21. The document contains a set of conceptual ideas and practical proposals aimed to raise the efficiency of the contemporary collective security system, rationalization of the UN system and multilateral mechanisms of cooperation and development in the globalized world.
