RUSSIAN OMBUDSMAN REPORTS ON WORK DONE IN 2004

MOSCOW, March 21 (RIA Novosti) - At the meeting on March 18 with Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, Russian ombudsman Vladimir Lukin presented the report on his work in 2004, his press service reports on Monday.

Lukin stressed that as before he doubts the truth of making entities of the Russian Federation responsible for the provision of social support to rehabilitated persons, victims of political repressions, workers on the home front, labour veterans.

Fradkov and Lukin also discussed practical steps towards realization of the president's initiative to improve conditions for functioning of the regional mass media.

It was specially stressed at the meeting that more federal assistance should be given to permanent institutions of social security also from the Pension Fund.

In this connection, Lukin asked for assistance to be given in equipping the Chelyabinsk regional children's blood cancer center as a measure to help victims of the ecological catastrophe in the 1950s.

Fradkov stressed the need for organs of executive power thoroughly to study the annual report On the Activities of the Ombudsman of the Russian Federation in 2004.
