OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Barkindo said that non-OPEC oil producers could decide to reduce their output by a total of 600,000 barrels per day or more.

VIENNA (Sputnik) — OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Barkindo said Saturday he expected non-OPEC oil producers to reduce their output by a total of 600,000 barrels per day or more.

"This is a historic meeting," Barkindo told reporters in Vienna, Austria, adding the meeting was the first to include 12 non-member producers.

Asked if non-OPEC countries would commit to reducing production by 600,000 per day, he said the figure could be higher. A half of that cut is expected to come from Russia.

Non-OPEC countries agreed on November 30 to cut their production by 1.2 million barrels per day to 32.5 million.
