MOSCOW (Sputnik) — He added that WCO had been vigilant on any reversal toward an anti-trade sentiment and would take necessary measures, primarily through communication, to show how trade facilitation can help the international community.

"It is true that there is anti-globalization sentiment even against multilateral framework and regional framework. In terms of that announcement of the next US president, we have to be careful to distinguish from election campaign rhetoric and what he would really implement. So we are carefully watching what real direction of the new US executive body, we are ready to face any challenges and also they could provide us opportunities that we can and Russia can also exploit," Mikuriya said on the sidelines of the 76th session of the WCO Policy Commission held in Moscow December 5-7.

During his presidential campaign, the US president-elect has repeatedly criticized the Trans-Pacific Partnership and expressed the desire to shift the focus from the global trade to national economic development in order to support the US economy.
