MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the ABC television broadcaster, Sevdet Ramadan Besim, 19, was accused of planning to run down and behead a police officer at an Anzac Day in March 2015. The investigation revealed that Besim had discussed his intentions with a UK teenager, who is now serving a five-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to provoking the terrorist plot.
The two teenagers also discussed their plans to carry out a terrorist attack with a kangaroo packed with explosives and painted with an Daesh jihadist group symbol, the broadcaster reported with reference to the investigation materials.
Besim pleaded guilty to plotting the terrorist attack and received a reduced jail sentence instead of a a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, according to the broadcaster.
Daesh, which occupies vast tracts of Iraq and Syria and is outlawed in many countries including Russia, has gained much notoriety for conducting suicide bombings and other attacks worldwide and recruiting young people via social media.
