MOSCOW, October 14 (RIA Novosti)  - As many as 7 million passwords to online document-sharing site Dropbox have allegedly been hacked, with some already published on Pastebin, an anonymous information-sharing website, with hackers threatening to release more account details in exchange for Bitcoin.

“6,937,081 Dropbox Accounts Hacked,” said the message of an anonymous Pastebin user. “More Bitcoin = More Accounts Published on Pastebin,” added the note followed by a list of over 400 Dropbox accounts.  The anonymous hacker said the stolen information includes photos, videos and other personal files.

Dropbox quickly denied having been hacked.

"These usernames and passwords were unfortunately stolen from other services and used in attempts to log in to Dropbox accounts," online magazine Engadget quotes a Dropbox spokesperson as saying. "We'd previously detected these attacks and the vast majority of the passwords posted have been expired for some time now. All other remaining passwords have been expired as well."

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden’s advice to those concerned about their privacy is to "get rid of Dropbox" and cease using Facebook and Google, reports The Independent.
