Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner have launched the broadcasting of the TV channel RT in Spanish in Argentina.

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Moscow Region, October 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner have launched the broadcasting of the TV channel RT in Spanish in Argentina.

"We can address the peoples [of our countries] without intermediaries and transmit the values of our own. We are very glad to include the channel RT in Spanish in the digital TV broadcasting in Argentina," Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner said on Thursday at a video conference with Vladimir Putin, adding that the opportunity to receive first-hand news is especially important in the times of complex international situation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has referred to the RT as a "solid and credible source of information about what is happening in Russia and in the world." Putin has expressed hope that the launch of a Russian TV channel in Spanish language in Argentina will help Argentinians better understand the people of Russia.

Russian leader has noted that RT has become the first foreign channel that will broadcast alongside Argentinian state channels. He congratulated Argentinians on the launch of a new TV channel and wished them "peace, health and prosperity."

Russian President has warned that the tough information wars and the attempts by some of the actors on the international scene to impose their own "monopoly on truth" are becoming a sign of our times. However the alternative sources of information in such situations are in particular demand.

"Russia Today channel is exactly like this, as it does not implies the methods of aggressive imposition of its point of view on the others, is always open for discussions and provides its viewer with a broad range of opinions on the issues of politics, social life, history and culture, allowing people to decide for themselves on what's going on and to make relevant conclusions of their own," Putin concluded.

RT is a Moscow-based, international TV network, broadcasting in English, Spanish and Arabic. RT in Spanish was launched in December 2009, becoming the first Russian TV channel to broadcast in the Spanish language worldwide. In Argentina, RT Spanish will be available 24/7 to 80 percent of the country's population.
