MOSCOW, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - A computer hacker-turned-informant for the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Hector Xavier Monsegur was an alleged mastermind behind cyberattacks against 30 countries, including US partners, The Daily Dot reported.

According to documents obtained by the online newspaper, the FBI informant instructed attacks be carried out on websites in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia during a 2012 cyberattack campaign.

Hector Xavier Monsegur, also known by his online pseudonym Sabe, was arrested by US federal agents in 2011 and agreed to become an informant for the FBI as part of a plea deal.

While working as an informant, Monsegur coordinated attacks against foreign targets, which were carried out by activist and computer hacker Jeremy Hammond, who was wanted by the FBI for cybercrime. Hammond was unaware that “Sabe” worked for the authorities and that the stolen data was being uploaded to an FBI-monitored server.
