    Member of Moldova Delegation in PACE Calls for Investigation Into Kiev's War Crimes

    Moldovan politician, member of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Grigore Petrenco has called for a thorough investigation into military crimes committed by Ukraine's National Guard in southeastern Ukraine.

    STRASBOURG, September 30 (RIA Novosti), Daria Chernyshova - Moldovan politician, member of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Grigore Petrenco has called for a thorough investigation into military crimes committed by Ukraine's National Guard in southeastern Ukraine.

    "All we at the PACE need to turn our face to the residents of Donbas, to pay attention to the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in southeastern Ukraine which engulfed millions of residents of this region," Petrenco said at the press conference held on the sidelines of PACE's fall session in Strasbourg, adding that it would be just "to immediately launch an investigation into all the circumstances under which these crimes were committed."

    Petrenko called on PACE to launch a fact-finding mission into the circumstances of these military crimes, so that the issue of military crimes committed by Kiev get an adequate response.

    "I also want you to ask the council of Europe to condemn all those military crimes that we witnessed over the past months in Donbas - the destruction of civilian population, civil object, social objects, schools, hospitals, infrastructure," Petrenco noted.

    He stressed that there is no question of who is responsible for these war crimes, as the people of southeastern Ukraine currently live in dire conditions and they had "definitely never ordered to bomb themselves."

    Petrenco said that he was the first member in the assembly to visit the area after ceasefire was announced. And that it was particularly the trip which gave him an idea of holding such press conference and making public his personal experience.

    Since mid-April the Ukrainian government has been conducting a military operation against independence supporters in eastern Ukraine who refused to acknowledge the new government that came to power after a coup in February. Due to the conflict, Ukraine's southeastern regions witnessed severe humanitarian catastrophe, with citizens struggling without water and electricity.

    Kiev authorities and independence supporters of eastern Ukraine agreed on a ceasefire on September 5 at a Contact Group meeting in the Belarusian capital Minsk.
