According to Fard, after the SCO adopts new full membership rules at the September summit, Tehran plans to promote its application for full membership in the organization.

On September 9, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived on an official visit to Tajikistan. He is scheduled to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday and to be a guest at the SCO’s Council of Heads of States meeting on September 12.

The SCO was founded in 2001 in Shanghai. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are the current members of the organization. Afghanistan, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan have observer status. Belarus, Turkey and Sri Lanka are dialogue partners.
