The name of the Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin may appear on the memorial to deceased journalists in the US capital of Washington, the senior manager of media relations of the Newseum interactive museum of news and journalism told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - The name of the Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin may appear on the memorial to deceased journalists in the US capital of Washington, the senior manager of media relations of the Newseum interactive museum of news and journalism told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

“Andrey will be among the many journalists whose names our Journalists Memorial committee considers for inclusion on the wall at next year’s rededication ceremony, “ Jonathan Thompson said.

According to Thompson, the committee will begin the review at the end of 2014.

“The rededication will take place in May or June of 2015,” he added.

The Journalist Memorial at the Newseum is a two-story glass structure with the names of reporters, photographers, editors and broadcasters who have died while performing their professional duties since 1837. It currently contains the names of 2,256 journalists.

The last rededication at the Newseum took place in June, 2014, honoring the 77 journalists who were killed in 2013 and adding 10 names to the memorial.

International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin is the fourth Russian journalist killed while covering the ongoing events in the war-torn east of Ukraine.

Stenin went missing in eastern Ukraine on August 5. Sources suggested that the Ukrainian military could have detained the journalist, but Kiev has never officially confirmed the information.

On September 3, Rossiya Segodnya Director General Dmitry Kiselev said that, according to information from the Russian Investigative Committee, Stenin died about a month ago near Donetsk when the car he was travelling in while on an editorial assignment was shot at and torched on a highway just outside the city.

A farewell ceremony for Stenin was held on September 5 at the Rossiya Segodnya international press center. Stenin was buried at Troyekurovskoye Cemetery in Moscow.
