Turkish largest city, Istanbul, and northwest of Turkey were cut off the power on Saturday; subway and trams stopped working, local media reported.

“It is a technical problem and we expect the issue to be resolved soon,” NTV channel cited Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu.

Officials of Turkish Energy Ministry said the cut had been caused by a system failure in a gas-fired power plant in the northwestern city of Bursa.

The power cut in Istanbul and neighboring towns was the main topic for discussion among twitter users.

“One can’t live without power, I realized it just now,” “If they don’t fix it, wait for the birth rate increase,” “Somebody hasn’t paid for power and the whole Istanbul is suffering,” Turkish twitter users joked.
