WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Carlin will leave his position on October 15, according to the statement.

"As Assistant Attorney General, John helped lead the department’s response to terrorist threats ranging from the Boston Marathon bombing to the recent bombings in New York and New Jersey," Lynch stated.

Lynch noted that Carlin also oversaw espionage cases and forged collaborations among the intelligence community, private sector and law enforcement.
