MOSCOW, March 21 (RIA Novosti) - UEFA has opened the bidding process for Euro 2020, which will run until May 15, the organization said Wednesday.

If there are two or more candidates, UEFA will a lengthy contest with a vote in late 2013 or early 2014.

“An invitation will be sent out to all 53 UEFA member associations,” UEFA said in a statement.

“The national associations will have until 15 May to declare their interest.”

Euro 2020 will be the second time the tournament will include 24 teams, an increase on the 16 who will contest Euro 2012.

Turkey reportedly remains keen to host Euro 2020, which would be its first major football tournament, after losing out to France in the race to host Euro 2016.

Georgia and Azerbaijan will submit a joint bid, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said in an address to the Azerbaijani parliament earlier this month.

There have also been reports that the Netherlands and Belgium may team up again after hosting the 2002 edition of the tournament together.
