Russian tennis player Vesna Dolonts has begun representing Serbia after receiving citizenship, the novosti.rs site reported Wednesday.

Russian tennis player Vesna Dolonts has begun representing Serbia after receiving citizenship, the novosti.rs site reported Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Muscovite, ranked 169 in the world, turned pro in 2006.

The Serbian news portal reported Dolonts has entered a second-tier ITF tournament in Cagnes-Sur-Mer, France, under the Serbian flag.

Her highest career ranking is No. 86 in July of last year after making the third round of the Australian Open and the second round of the French Open.

She scored a second-round upset of 17th seed Marion Bartoli in Melbourne, her best result to date.

Dolonts was born to a Serbian father and a Russian mother, and played under the surname Manasieva until she married in 2010.
