Russia's consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has suspended imports of canned vegetables from Moldova, the service said on its website Monday.

MOSCOW, July 21 (RIA Novosti) – Russia's consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has suspended imports of canned vegetables from Moldova, the service said on its website Monday.

“Rospotrebnadzor suspended on July 18 imports of Moldovan canned vegetables on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the statement says.

The measure comes amid Moldova’s failure to meet net weight labeling requirements. The ban targets four companies - Sorvest-Agro, Alfa-Nistru, Natur Bravo and Coval&Co.

Russia's agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor on July 18 introduced temporary restrictions on Moldovan fruit imports.

Moldova signed its EU association agreement on June 27, together with Georgia and Ukraine. The agreement envisages the establishment of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the EU.

After the move, Russia warned Moldova of a possible switch from the free trade regime to the regime of most favored nation treatment.

Last week, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development prepared a draft legislation cancelling nullified duties for imports of Moldovan products, including meat, vegetables, grain and fruit.
