MOSCOW, July 2 (RIA Novosti) - Russia’s REN-TV channel reported Wednesday that the journalists injured Tuesday in Ukraine were deliberately targeted.

“REN-TV journalists were deliberately shot at,” the TV channel said in its official Twitter, citing the head of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, Valery Bolotov.

Reporter Denis Kulaga and cameraman Vadim Yudin were wounded Tuesday in Ukraine’s Luhansk Region. A projectile, presumably from a howitzer, exploded near the journalists. They both suffered a concussion.

This Wednesday, Russia is paying its respects to Anatoly Klyan, a cameraman from Russia’s Channel-1 television station, who lost his life in an attack by Ukrainian Special Forces on June 29. Two other media employees from Russia’s state-run VGTRK media holding were killed near the Ukrainian city of Luhansk on June 17.

The three were awarded the Order of Courage for courage and bravery in carrying out their professional duties.

Russia has repeatedly expressed deep concern about the mistreatment of Russian journalists in crisis-torn Ukraine and called for a thorough inquiry into the deaths of the journalists.

Earlier this week, the United Nations condemned the killings and urged for the protection of media workers covering the events in the country.
