MOSCOW, February 14 (RIA Novosti) - Syria's opposition coalition denied on Thursday that its leader, Moaz al-Khatib, is due to visit Moscow, The Guardian reported.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Wednesday that Khatib will visit within the next two to three weeks.

"Not true," said Khalid Saleh, a spokesman for Khatib's National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (SNCROF).

In an e-mail to the Guardian, he added: "No one spoke with Mr. Khatib about the visit and he is not scheduled to travel to Russia next week or any time soon."

The Syrian foreign ministry has also downplayed speculation that the Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem will hold talks with the opposition in Moscow, The Guardian said.

Bogdanov said on Wednesday that al-Khatib had met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of a security conference in Munich on February 2, where Lavrov confirmed the invitation for al-Khatib to visit Moscow.
