Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday wanted to hold talks with US President-elect Donald Trump as soon as possible after Trump's inauguration.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — In November, Abe became the first foreign leader to meet Trump after the election victory and expressed hope for establishing trust-based relations between them.

"I would like to hold talks [with Trump] as soon as possible after the inauguration," Abe said as quoted by Kyodo news agency.

The inauguration ceremony for President-elect Trump is scheduled for January 20.
