Outgoing US President Barack Obama called French counterpart Francois Hollande on Wednesday to commend him on his efforts to sustain the balance of Trans-Atlantic relations, the White House said in the release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama expressed his gratitude for the close partnership the United States and France maintained since Hollande took office in 2012.

"President Obama thanked President Hollande for his leadership and expressed his appreciation for France’s steady contributions to the strength and unity of the trans-Atlantic alliance," the release stated.
